Leadership Exercise / Group Discussion
The room test. One brief. One chance to be remembered.
See the factsWhat this assessment actually is.
Most degree-grade and disciplined-service interviews include a leadership exercise, usually staged as a group discussion. The Immigration Officer preliminary is the sharpest example: a syndicate of candidates, English throughout, a stimulus only, minutes to derive the question and the rest to debate it. Speaking turns are limited — often one or two per candidate. The panel measures how you enter, how you yield, and whether what you said advanced the room.

What candidates overlook.
- Frame abstract topics with the WHO method — Wording, History, Organised definition.
- For concrete policy topics, lead with the policy outline, then its evolution, then your own analysis.
- Do not stack the room. Do not vanish from it. One precise contribution beats four shallow ones.
- For the impromptu talk that often follows: no canned 'integrity' script, no repeat of the group content. Either move is a fast disqualification.
